Shanghai International film festival: everything you need to know about Chinese movies
The 22nd edition of the Shanghai International film festival will be held from the 15th till the 24th of June. At the beginning of the week the organizers of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival announced the shortlist of nominees for its Golden Goblet Awards section. Among the 15 films listed also three Chinese movies, "The Return" the directorial debut of actress Qin Hailu, "Spring Tide" by Yang Lina, and "Vortex" by Jacky Gan.
focuses on the relationship between the female members of a family: a journalist, her mother and daughter, living under the same roof.
explores the secrets behind a child abduction. Despite the difficult theme, the crime movie has a warm theme.
"The Return" 《拂乡心》
is about the life of the lonely old man Jiang Sheng, his wandering in a foreign land and the incomprehensibility of his hometown.
"The Sound of Dali" by Zhang Yang is in the list for the best documentary film award, while "Spycies" directed by Zhang Ziyi and Guillaume Ivernel is competing for the best animated feature. For 2019 Asian New Talent Award, best picture section, other two Chinese films are in the race, "Send Me to The Clouds" by Teng Congcong and "The Fourth Wall" by Zhang Chong and Zhang Bo.
The festival will open with the premieres of two Chinese films: Huayi Bros.’ patriotic World War II epic “The Eight Hundred,” directed by Guan Hu, and “Chuanyue Shikong de Huhuan” by Zhang Jiarui.
The jury for the section includes Chinese actors Zhao Tao and Wang Jingchun.
Under the guidance of State Film Administration, the Shanghai International Film Festival, held by China Media Group and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, is the only competitive feature film festival in China recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF), since its birth in 1993.
